For each recording, you will see the following options:

We include two kinds of audio files, one option for downloading the file and two for listening to the file from the website.
The two kinds of audio files are:
RealAudio
RealAudio files require that RealPlayer be installed on your computer. The audio file in the RealAudio format has an ".ra" file extension. Files relating to this player are designated on the web page by the
symbol.
MP3
MP3 files require that Windows Media Player, MusicMatch, Yahoo Music Jukebox, or some other MP3 player is installed on your computer. The audio file in the MP3 format has an ".mp3" file extension. Files relating to MP3 are designated on the web page by the
symbol.
Most of these players can be downloaded and installed for free.
There are also additional "support" files for each of the formats. In order to provide "Streaming Audio", playlist files are included for the two formats. The playlist file for the RealAudio format has an ".ram" extension. The playlist for the MP3 format has an ".m3u" file extension.
If you are wanting the file for later listening or for sharing with a friend, then download either the *.mp3 file or the *.ra file (depending upon your audio player) to your computer. To download the file, right-click on the appropriate icon from the "Download" column and select "Save Target As..." and then select a location to which the file will be saved.
Streaming Audio is a process where the file will actually begin playing before it has completely downloaded to the computer. The "Streaming Audio (56+)" is for slower speed connections and "Streaming Audio (256+)" is for the faster speed connections (DSL, Cable, etc.). Clicking on these icons (select "Run" or "Play" if prompted) will open up your default media player (RealPlayer is required for RealAudio files) and begin playing almost immediately, A portion of the file is downloaded into the buffer and soon begins playing while the rest of the file is being downloaded or "streamed".
